You are invited to Field Guides an exhibition celebrating the Fieldhouse residencies in Parks
Exhibition Dates: Sept. 11 – 24 at the Roundhouse. Opening reception: Thurs, Sept. 14, 6:00 to 8:00 pm Field Guides 2017 marks the culmination of the second cycle of the Vancouver Parks Board’s Fieldhouse Studio program – an initiative that transformed former care-takers’ suites in parks across Vancouver into active spaces for community engaged creative practices. In each cycle artists collectives, food, greening and environmental groups are given three years of free access to Fieldhouse Studios in exchange for engaging neighbours, colleagues and curious visitors in imaginative, collaborative work in parks. Community-engaged projects like these are often interdisciplinary and ephemeral and don’t necessarily fit easily into a traditional arts or community centre setting. Field Guides offers a glimpse into this unique work happening in 17 parks across Vancouver and celebrates the variety of ways these inspiring projects lead communities into deeper conversations about living in the urban environment. Find out more about all 22 Fieldhouse Programs across the Vancouver Park Board at vancouver.ca/fieldhouse-programs It's Movie night at The Vancouver B Movie Factory. Doors open at 6 pm and the Movie starts at 7pm. Come early and enjoy a fun night at the Moberly Arts and Cultural Centre. We are showing "Forbidden Planet" (1956) a Classic B Movie. With Leslie Nielsen and Walter Pidgeon. Our pre-movie short this month will be "The Crimson Permanent Assurance" .. Swash buckling action from the accounting department on the high seas of financial doom! (Believe me .. this is a REAL movie gem) Quick Summary of "Forbidden Planet": When Commander JJ Adams and his crew are sent to investigate the silence from a planet inhabited by terror formers, they find all but two have died. Dr. Morbius and his daughter Altaira have somehow survived a hideous monster which roams the planet. Unknown to Adams, Morbius has made a discovery, and has no intention of sharing it (or his daughter!) with anyone. Forbidden Planet was first released across the U. S. on April 1, 1956 in CinemaScope, Metrocolor, and in some theaters, stereophonic sound, either by the magnetic or Perspecta processes. The Hollywood premiere was held at Grauman's Chinese Theatre, and Robby the Robot was on display in the lobby. Forbidden Planet ran every day at Grauman's Theater through the following September. "The Thing from Another world" (1951) by producer Howard Hawks. Click Here To See The Trailer Quick Summary: Scientists at an Arctic research station discover a spacecraft buried in the ice. Upon closer examination, they discover the frozen pilot. All hell breaks loose when they take him back to their station and he is accidentally thawed out! The Thing is now considered by many to be one of the best films of 1951. The film "is better than most flying saucer movies, thanks to well-drawn characters and concise, tense plotting." In 2001, the United States Library of Congress deemed the film "culturally significant" and selected it for preservation in the National Film Registry. Additionally, Time magazine named The Thing from Another World "the greatest 1950s sci-fi movie.” They'll be popcorn, good fun and good company. The Night is free, donations are welcome.
